Over the three-plus years (2016-2019) of researching Protobilly , I amassed over 500-period newspaper clippings, sheet music covers/interiors, books, photos, and other contextual ephemera documenting the composers, songs, performers record labels, music publishers, etc. of our featured tracks. Yet despite the luxury of a 76-page accompanying booklet, there was no room for the vast majority of collected materials..

I will now begin posting — in box set sequence order — selected raw research elements, along with extended annotations, newly discovered materials, an excerpt of the original recording and side trips down (semi) related rabbit holes.

The Protobilly project unleashed a terrific outpouring of enthusiastic new research and innovative thinking about American popular and folk culture and how we understand and portray vernacular transmission and transformation.
Thrilled to keep that going here.
